The Raiders are a professional American football team based in Oakland, California. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team was established on January 30, 1960, and began play on September 11, 1960, as a member of the American Football League (AFL). The Raiders’ headquarters and practice facilities are located in Alameda, California.
The Raiders appeared in Super Bowl II, and played in six AFC Championship Games between 1967 and 1976. In 1976, they finally became an NFL team after competing in the AFL for 16 years. Since joining the NFL, they have appeared in 14 Divisional Playoff games and have won four AFC West divisional titles—in 1976, 1980, 1983, and 2002. As of 2019, the Raiders have an overall winning record of 556 wins to 429 losses (a .564 winning percentage), making them tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for 9th place all time (regular season only).
